6th September: 7th Parmacup, Parma, Italy The Parmacup has a special place for Team Suisse, as it was this tournament in 2008 that saw the very first Switzerland team. The 2014 edition was also the tournament at which we showed off our flash new Wahoo costumes for the first time. Tournament Report: in English More information: Tournament website, Facebook event. |

18th May: Mulhouse Spring Tournament, Mulhouse, France. Five tournaments in a row in France for Team Suisse! This time it was another return to Mulhouse for their Spring tournament. We managed an 8-0 win against Mulhouse 2, but lost all of our other games, and although we scored the first goal against Strasbourg, our last game of the day, we were not able to hold on to this lead, and ended up going down 3-2. Tournament Report: in German More information: Facebook event. |

6th April: Lyon Tournament, Lyon, France. Ranking: ??th of ?? (last) And yet another new destination for Team Suisse! And this time the first proper joint collaboration between Zürich and Geneva! Unfortunately, we once again took last place, but it was more great experience for our three newer players. |

19th January: Grenoble Winter Tournament, Grenoble, France. Another new destination for Team Suisse, the Grenoble Winter tournament is the home tournament of our old friend Favio, formerly the leader of underwater hockey in Geneva. Again we managed a full team of ten, nine from Zürich, complemeted by Johanna Schoeman, who is in the process of starting up a new team in Bern. Unfortunately, we once again took last place, but it was more great experience for our three newer players. Tournament Report: in English More information: Facebook event. |

17th November: Mulhouse Autumn Tournament, Mulhouse, France. A month on, and we were once again pitched against the same teams that we had faced in Strasbourg. However, we had quite a different team to that of the Strasbourg tournament, including three new players gained from our university recruitment drive a couple of months before. Amazingly, instead of our norm of having not enough players, we now had too many - thirteen! This unfortunately worked against us, and working out our substitution systems proved problematic. We managed a draw against the Mulhouse ladies but lost all of our other games to finish fourth out of five on goal difference. More information: Facebook event. |

October 2013 |

13th October: Strasbourg Autumn Tournament, Strasbourg, France. Our second visit to Strasbourg of 2013 produced yet another first: a full team of ten players, all from Zürich! We started off well, with wins against the Mulhouse men and Mulhouse women, but a tough game against Strasbourg 1 proved to be our undoing, and we were not able to prevent a second defeat at the hands of Strasbourg 2, so we ended up replicating our performance in the Strasbourg spring tournament - third out of five. 29th June: 14th Barcelona Tournament, Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain. This tournament has been running since 1999 and has reached a very high level, but is still a very friendly tournament. And it's in BARCELONA, so we had no difficulty in filling the team roster :-) Unfortunately, the standard was just a little too high for us, and we finished in last place, although we did have a goal to show for it, and of course we won the party. More information: Facebook event, tournament website. |

March 2013 |

17th March: Strasbourg Spring Tournament, Strasbourg, France. A first outing for Team Suisse, we were joined by three members of the Munich team from Germany. Wins against Strasbourg 2 and the Mulhouse women and losses against Strasbourg 1 and the Mulhouse men gave us a creditable third place out of five. |

16th December: Puck Luck Tournament, Bologna, Italy As the name implies, Puck Luck is not a a tournament for teams, but a potluck tournament where players register individually and are then drawn out of a hat into roughly even teams. This had a lot of appeal to the Zürich boys, and it was Alex, Ivan, Martin and Philipp that made their way down on the train to Bologna, where they were joined by Dave, so photos were taken on the side of the pool of the four red Suisse swimming costumes together. As luck would have it, Alex, Martin and Philipp were all drawn together in the same team, the Renne Incazza ("Pissed Reindeers"), with Ivan in a second team, the Babbi Bastardi ("Bad Santas") and Dave in a third team, the Pacchi Bomba ("Bomb Boxes"). Dave's team had difficulty gelling, and finished fourth, but Ivan's team and Alex/Martin/Philipp were neck and neck right up intil the second to last game, where they were due to play each other. And that ended in a draw! Finally, it came down to the last game of the day, Ivan's team against the team that so far had lost all of their games, and much to everyone's amazement, the last placed team managed a draw, so Alex/Martin/Philipp came first and Ivan's team came second. 17th November: Luwigana Tournament, Kranj, Slovenia. Team Suisse had an excellent result at this tournament in 2010, coming second in the second division, and in 2011 we joined forces with Trieste from Italy and helped them to come "not last" for the first time in their playing history. Because the pool in Ljubljana, where the tournament is normally held, was closed for renovation, the 2012 tournament was held at the Olympic Bazen in Kranj, half an hour up the road, and one of the best pools in Europe for underwater hockey. We had the usual mix of nationalities, with only British and Hungarian passports being present in more than single numbers, and we also had the broadest mix of experience, from World Championship medal winners to first-ever tournament. However, this diversity did not translate too well into cohesion in the water, and we lost all but one of our games to finish eleventh out of twelve. But as always we won the party! 21st October: Mulhouse Autumn Tournament, Mulhouse, France. Two tournaments a year has become the norm for our hyperactive neighbours from across the border, and they are are always good ones. This time we achieved - for the first time - a team made up entiredly of players resident in Switzerland, although we did still manage a full mix of nationalities, with no two players originating from the same country. In the water, our 2 1/2 years of playing first in one and then in two lanes counted against us, and we were only able to achieve one victory, against the Mulhouse ladies. This put us in sixth place out of seven. More information: Facebook event. |

8th September: Golden Snorkel Tournament (GST), Enschede, Netherlands "Just a week after Parma, so you don't need to take off your fins. Just stay in your speedos all week - makes life a lot easier :) The GST tournament is targeted at developing teams, so it was a great opportunity for our newer players to get some tournament experience. After a shaky start we had a good middle run of victories, such that we could take home the third place trophy if we were to win our last game. However, this was against the team that had beaten every other team by large margins - the eventual tournament winner - and we had no chance, so we had to settle for fourth place. "The Eike's personal guarantee for sunshine" held true, and we all got good suntans, then after the barbecue we repeated the previous year's "glow in the dark" night hockey game. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2012-05, available in English. More information: Tournament website, Facebook event. |

1st September: 5th Parmacup, Parma, Italy An increasingly high level but still fun tournament, Team Suisse had a 100% record in the first three years of the tournament, 2008-2010. Sadly that record passed when we didn't manage a team for the 2011 tournament, but we bounced back for 2012 to take tenth place - second in the second division. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2012-05, available in English. More information: Tournament website, Facebook event. |

21st July: Munich Tournament, Peissenberg, Germany. The welcome return of the Bier n' Brezen tournament to celebrate ten years of underwater hockey in Munich. It took place in Peissenberg, about an hour south of Munich, and Team Suisse with three players playing in their first ever tournament achieved a creditable seventh place out of eleven teams. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2012-05, available in English. More information: Tournament website, Facebook event. |

27th May: Mulhouse Tournament, Mulhouse, France. It took a while to establish contact with the Mulhouse club, but since that initial breakthrough they have become firm friends of Team Suisse. Of course, it probably helps that Martin now also plays for their men's team in French championships, so our invitation should now be pretty secure. For the 2012 season both the Mulhouse men and the Mulhouse women qualified for their respective national championships for the first time ever, so this tournament was set up to enable the Mulhouse men to play as a team in the run up to the French nationals. The Swiss team was its usual "United Nations" lineup of a Brit, a Colombian, a French-Canadian and - still a rarity - a real Swiss person! We lost against the Mulhouse and Strasbourg men but won against the Mulhouse women, which placed us third out of four, which was a very respectable result considering that half our team was playing in its first ever tournament and our Swiss representative was playing in her first ever game! More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2012-05, available in English. |

17th May: Third Madrid UWH Tournament, Madrid, Spain. Team Suisse did extremely well in its first attendance at the Madrid tournament, and the passing of a year saw five of the original team plus five Team Suisse newcomers rock up to defend its second division winners trophy. Sadly though, it didn't work out quite the same way, and we actually lost most of our games. However, we seemed to win the ones that mattered, and actually finished second in the second division, only one place lower than last year, and finished above several of the teams that had beaten us. Strange, but we weren't complaining! More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2012-05, available in English. More information: Facebook event. |

October 2011 |

9th October: Mulhouse Tournament, Mulhouse, France. Little more than six months after our nearest neighbours, the French team from Mulhouse, first invited us to a tournament, than they did it again! This time we had no problem in filling the team roster, and it was an American, an Australian, a Brazilian, a Frenchwoman, a French-Aussie, two Brits and two Colombians that made up the Swiss team. Oh, and also a Swiss guy, a success from our recent collaboration with the lifesaving group in Kloten, near Zürich airport. Mulhouse's own pool had developed some technical problems, so we played in a nearby pool in the Mulhouse suburb of Illzach. The last 18 months of playing in only 1-2 lanes really showed, as our opponents showed their familiarity with a full sized pool by swimming around us time and again. However, we did manage to beat Nancy, Strasbourg 2 and the Mulhouse Ladies to finish 4th out of 7. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2012-02, available in English. |

May 2011 |

14th May: Second Madrid Tournament of UWH + UWR, Madrid, Spain. A new destination for us, and a whole new roster of players! Well, new to us, anyway, and new to each other, but not new to the game, although we did run the whole spectrum from Katherine playing in her first ever tournament to Leigh, a multiple world championship gold medal winner. The scratch team took a little to find its feet, and these early defeats meant that we started the second part of the tournament in the second division. However, from then on, the team gelled flawlessly, and beat all comers in straight sets to take the second division trophy. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2011-04, available in English. More information: Facebook event. |

March 2011 |

27th March: Mulhouse Tournament, Mulhouse, France. Ranking: 4th of 5 After two years of trying to make contact with our nearest neighbours in Mulhouse, France, we finally had success in early 2011, and two scant months later they invited us to a tournament! Only five made the journey from Zürich, so we needed to join forces with another team. We started off with the Mulhouse Ladies, but the collaboration quickly fell apart when they failed to turn up for our second game. We then huddled up to the Nancy team, who themselves only had six players, and this combination worked better, bringing us our first victory of the day against our former teammates. However, this first victory was also to be our last victory, and we finished fourth out of five. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2011-03, available in English. |

27th Nov: Luwigana Tournament, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Our first attendance at this tournament in our own right as Switzerland, and our most successful result yet, coming second in the B division. More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2010-06, available in English. More information: Facebook event. |

11th Sep: Third Parma Tournament, Parma, Italy. ??th place of ?? We maintained our 100% attendance record at the third Parma tournament. Open air pool, warm sunshine, great visibility, great party, all the ingredients for a great tournament, and this time we improved spectacularly: we won games and scored points! More details can be found in the Flaschenpost article, 2011-01, available in English. More information: Tournament website, Facebook event. |

28th Nov: Luwigana Tournament, Ljubljana, Slovenia. We joined forces again with our friends from Munich and came tenth out of thirteen (second place in the second division). More detail can be found in the Flaschenpost article 2009-06, available in English and German. |

12th Sep: Second Parma Tournament, Parma, Italy. From a result in 2008 of last place, no points, two goals and no Swiss players on the team, we improved dramatically to achieve a result of last place, no points, three goals and one Swiss player on the team! Oh, and we won the party... More detail can be found in the Flaschenpost article 2009-05, available in English and German. More information: Tournament website. |

25th Apr: Budvar Tournament, Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic - The Hungarian Women, with Martin Reed, 7th place - Munich, with Martin Paesold, 9th place Martin Paesold and Martin Reed were again scheduled to join the Munich team, although a direct invitation was also received to field a Swiss team. Maybe next year... However, Munich actually already had nine players, so Martin P joined Munich and Martin R joined the team in greatest need of an extra player and became a Hungarian woman for the day. Munich came ninth, the Hungarian women came seventh. More detail can be found in the Flaschenpost article 2009-03, available in German. More information: Tournament website. |
